3 years ago, the Brooklyn community engaged in a safe and active travel process. Members from the school (staff and students), PAC, SD71, RCMP, Town of Comox, the Comox Valley Regional District and parents or community members were all participants in the venture. After walking the proposed areas, and sharing feedback about safety concerns, the following tool was developed. Today it is displayed in our front foyer and we have increased the number of bike racks our school has so students / parents / staff members can safely lock their bikes up.
Our school does not have a school bus since most homes are within walking / biking distance. There is a public bus that services the nearby high school and neighbourhood community. We continually work with our community to encourage safe travel to / from our school, especially from drivers.
